Dear colleagues and friends,
On behalf of the executive committee of the HSoMM, I have the honor and the pleasure to welcome you to the website of our society. There is a remarkable increase in the frequency of fungal infections observed in recent years, as well as changes in their epidemiology and pathogenesis. This can be attributed to the increase of immunocompromised patients, the development of new diagnostic methodologies and also the evolving therapeutic practices. More aggressive chemotherapy, solid organ and hematopoietic stem cell transplantations, HIV and the extended use of immunosuppressive drugs, have as a consequence that many medical specialties are being confronted with fungal infections, both superficial and systemic, therefore there is a need for continuous scientific update.
The presentation of the work of the HSoMM, such as ongoing studies, announcements for conferences, courses and other scientific meetings in the field of Medical Mycology, with links to important publications and other relative websites, are the main characteristics of our renewed website.
We believe that the internet can offer a valuable contribution to this endeavor, giving opportunities for useful and updated information. Having the ambition to be constantly improving, our site welcomes any comments, ideas or suggestions for this purpose.
